With the release of Dangal Trailer, good news for Geeta Phogat

Geeta Phogat, first Indian women to win a gold in 2010 commonwealth games is  appointed as Deputy supervisor of police after a wait of six years. Double delight for Phogat family as Mahavir Phogat’s  ( Geeta Phogat father) biopic Dangal trailer is released today and also been heard with the news of Geeta Phogat DSP appointment.

Geeta Phogat, winning gold in Commonwealth games 2010

Mahavir Phogat, father of Geeta Phogat  is a amateur wrestler who dreams to win a gold for India but once the opportunity for him to become champion is dismantled. He dreams to make a champion out of his son, unfortunately her wife gives birth to four girl child. His  inspirational journey of training his daughters Geeta Phogat and Babita Kumari  to become world class wrestlers is the story of Dangal movie (trailer released today).
Geeta Phogat was the first women to break the shatters and become notable women wrestler in India. She was synonyms for word “first” in Indian women wrestling. She is also the first-ever Indian woman wrestler to have qualified for the Olympics 2012. Her participation boosted fellow women wrestlers in Rio 2016 in which India was glad to show three women wrestlers participation in Rio. It includes Babita Kumari (sister of Geeta Phogat), who won bronze at the 2012 World Wrestling Championship and Vinesh Phogat cousin of Phogat sisters and third one, India’s star Sakshi Malik, Rio Bronze medalist who filled the shoes of Geeta Phogat. Geeta, Babita and Vinesh are tagged as Phogat sisters. Phogat sisters are the most successful one in women wrestling but they have a poor outing in Olympics. Though Vinesh Phogat was considered one of the medal prospect in Rio 2016, she was forced to withdrew in quarter finals due to knee injury. For Geeta and Babita, Tokyo 2020 looks odd due to their age but Vinesh Phogat who is twenty two now has a advantage. But still, its a long sight dream.

Though Sakshi Malik name will be cherished by Indian women wrestling history, but Geeta Phogat will always be remembered as a woman who made girls to believe that they can wrestle too. She will be the example to many Sakshi Malik to follow. Her fight pays off, that she is being appointed as DSP by Haryana Police and state government after six years.

No ‘STAN’imal for Chennai Open 2017

Three time grand slam champion and world n0-3 Stan Wawrinka usually starts his season in Chennai Open but there will be no Stan to entertain Chennai crowd this season. Regaining US Open champion confirmed his entry to Brisbane International, a ATP tournament that happens to be competed at same dates of Chennai Open. “I’m excited to be heading to the Brisbane International for the first time in my career,” Wawrinka said in a statement. He also added “I’ve heard such great things about the event and it feels like the right time to change up the start of my season.”

Stan Wawrinka enjoying batting (playing cricket) in Chennai Open 2016

He is a successful player at this event, winning four titles and reaching final in 2010. He always mentioned Chennai open as his lucky charm but he refused to attend 2017 event. He also added that the crowd need to pressurize Tom Annear, the tournament director, if they wanted him back.

The event looks unappealing as far as now with no top-10 players. Though its ATP 250 tournament, it always brought a huge glamour to the event by bringing star players like Spaniards Rafael Nadal, Feliciano Lopez and Former US open champion Marin Cilic and even more. So Management will be keenly looking forward to bring any new addition and also former champions back. Still a fresh US open champion Stan will be missed.

One of the source confirmed that there will be at least a grand slam winner which is likely to be Marin Cilic who is not a stranger to the tournament. He won twice here and there are talks to bring Argentine former US open champion Martin del potro, he is sure a crowd-puller. He has huge wins in his bags on his comeback trail of this calendar years, wins includes against Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray. However, Management has got lots of job to be done before the tournament begins in January 2017.

Will Jitu Rai’s Champions of champion title erase Olympic hurt?

jitu-rai-fThe season comes to an end for shooters and Jitu Rai will be remembered as the best and Champion shooter of 2016 but that will not end the hurt of Rio Olympics. India has only one gold medal in individual event all through the Olympics history. Jitu Rai was a best shot for Rio 2016 to join Abinav Bhindra in gold medal club but dream vanished, as he was the first shooter to be eliminated in the finals of 10m pistol and 50m pistol was even more disappointing as he didn’t qualify for finals.

Jitu was the first Indian to qualify for Rio Olympics and finished in podium twice in three world cups before Olympics. He was a sure shot for Medal in Rio but a bad outing ended with one final in 10m pistol and finished in 12th in 50m pistol (didn’t qualify for finals). Rio 2016 Olympics was one to forget by Indians and the disappointment started from Jitu Rai’s elimination. Finally India had only 2 medals to show in Rio 2016 (Both by women athletes and no gold).

Army man Jitu competed in last world cup of the season, this October and once again showed why he is so special and why his Olympic loss was a big shock. He once again ended up in podium with a silver medal in 10m pistol and qualified for finals in 50m, where he eventually eliminated.
The success didn’t end there, as he had opportunity to qualify in champion’s trophy (a player with atleast a single medal in world cups allowed to participate) and the competition will take place at the end of world cup final. Lucknow based shooter played for pride, remedy for Olympics and also for a title of “Champions of champion”. With a close score, he topped Serbia’s Damir Mikec and became Champions of Champion.

As per professional circuit, this is the biggest achievement but that doesn’t satisfy a country, which is in hunger of medal in Olympics. 29-year-old Jitu Rai may have a shot for Tokyo 2020 games but hope of medal is far from thoughts.

So finally despite of Sania’s shy nature, she walked up to Alisa and asked her to partner her who was practicing around.

PV Sindhu, becoming youngest individual to win a medal in Olympic was never a aggressive screamer in court before.

One year ago, coach Pullela Gopichand shouted at PV Sindhu and told her ‘unless you scream and show your feelings in the middle of the court, you shouldn’t pick up the racquets again’.

PV Sindhu’s earlier matches are the evident of her softness. Even fist pumps were rare to witness. She is a calm person both in and off the court. Those words from Gopi driven Sindhu to tears.

But PVS was always said to be a player who blindly follow her coach from the day one.She was forced to take a long break from badminton during her leg injury in midway of 2015 but Gopi pushed her harder to make Sindhu play in wheel chair. That’s shows the relationship and the hard work put by these two.

Sindhu started doing what Gopi instructed her.She did scream, standing alone in the middle of the court. In the Rio Olympics finals where carolin Marin called as Maria Sharapova of badminton for her screaming was also found to be bit shaky with louder scream by Sindhu and her brutal aggression.

World no-10 PV Sindhu broke the odds to become 1st Indian female athlete to win silver in #Rio2016. It won’t be surprising to see a Female athlete being a flag bearer for India in 2020 Tokyo games.

SAKSHI MALIK,  the UNNOTICED turns into NATIONAL ICON over a midnight

3 months back, it was still Geeta phogat who had greater chance to represent India in #RioOlympics(58 kg category). Geeta phogat was India’s first female wrestler to represent India in Olympics, she competed in London games 2012. Twenty three  year old Sakshi Malik, Haryana was always overshadowed by Geeta phogat and also by other phogat sisters.

In the Olympic qualifying event,Mongolia Geeta phogat and Babita kumari failed to appear in repechage round after their early loss and it was a shocking scenario. They explained later that they kept themselves fresh for next qualifying round( final qualifying round). However this act was called as a shameful act for which Both of them suspended by the WFI(Wrestling Federation of India) and disallowed from taking part in the final qualifying event which would be held in Istanbul in May.The suspensions of both Geeta and Babita were lifted eventually, but while Babita had no real contender in the 53kg category, Sakshi had been waiting in the wings for a while in the 58kg one. Geeta Phogat was overlooked, Sakshi was named to represent India in Istanbul.

Sakshi Malik grabbed the opportunity in both the hands and qualified for Rio after a sensation semi final match in qualifying round in Istanbul( A final in Qulaifying round will earn a Olympic spot).Sakshi Malik mentioned before going to Rio ”if the Indian people support us, we shall bring back medals. Out of all of us, I think Vinesh has the best chance of doing it.” Vinesh Phogat youngest of Phogat sisters was always considered the best shot for medal in Rio 2016

Even once Rio Olympics started Vinesh phogat was enjoying the spotlight while Sakshi Malik was considered the least medal hope in whole wrestling squad though hopes were high on wrestlers that they will bring back glory.

Sakshi Malik and Vinesh Phogat started their Rio campaign same day. Vinesh Phogat started in high note with a win by superiority in points against her Romanian opponent while Sakshi Malik need to fight hard for her first win. Both headed to quarter finals and still the hopes were high on Vinesh Phogat rather then Sakshi Malik. But the script was folded with surprise when Vinesh phogat was forced to quit after her injury in Quarter finals and at the same time Sakshi Malik went down to Russian wrestler in Quarter finals. The hopes on women wrestlers almost came to an end with that loss. The day was already turning out to be a another day of disappointment for India in Rio. But as the Sun came out in Rio, there was a light for Indian wrestler where Russian qualified for finals and SakshiMalik got another shot to stay in medal contention.SakshiMalik moved to repechage round and she needed 2 wins for a bronze .. She makes the first one easily but the second one was a tough one. she was down by 0-5 but as Sakshi mentioned ‘fight , fight still you achieve something’..She kept fighting still the last moment and came back to win the bout 8-5 and also to win the bronze medal for India which turned out to be the first medal for India in Rio.

Though she was overshadowed or wasn’t looked much but the history will remain as #SakshiMalik is India’s first ever female wrestler to win a medal in #Olympics. – HARI.C.R
